There are different types of coastal protection. This example talks about the time needed for a sand cover layered beach protection system with geotextile sand containers (GSC) Secutex® Soft Rock.
The beach protection system uses geotextile sand containers to protect your beach against erosion in case of high-water levels and storm waves. To ensure that the protective system is no longer visible after installation, it is covered with a layer of sand.
In order to guarantee a long-term solution (up to more than 25 years), the sand on the beach is removed and layers of sand containers are installed and covered with a protective layer of sand.
Erosion protection for beach areas (exemplarily)
The following factors are used as examples for the calculation of the time required:
Required construction time – Beach protection- /erosion protection system with geotextile sand filled containers (geometry: Length: 35m, length: 50m)
CONSTRUCTION SITE FACILTIY – 1 day
Barricading beach areas, setting up material stores, provide access to the beach, etc.
CLEANING – 0.5 days
Removal of roots, old structures, etc. Usually you need an excavator and a truck as well as approx. two construction workers.
EXCAVATION and PLANUM – 1 day
In order to install the sand containers, the construction site must be prepared first. Part of the beach must be excavated and the planum prepared. You will need an excavator, a truck and construction workers.
FILLING and INSTALLATION – 15 days
To fill the 1.425 sand containers and install them correctly in the beach, if you fill and install about 100 sand containers a day.
SAND PROTECTION and LEVEL THE SURFACE – 0.5 days
After the installation of the sand containers into the beach, the structure is covered with sand. For the exemplarily 50m wide beach section you will need two construction workers, an excavator and a truck with driver.
CLEANING and REMOVAL OF THE CONSTRUCTION SITE – 1 day
Finally, the construction site must also be cleaned and removed.
TOTAL CONSTRUCTION TIME – 19 days
